ClimEx-PE at the GEF–NATURESCAPES International Workshop in London: Advancing Partnerships for Urban Climate and Nature Action
Katrin Merfeld and Jessica Lillquist represented the ClimEx-PE project at the GEF–NATURESCAPES International Workshop on Urban Action for Climate, Nature and Sustainable Development, held in London on 8–9 December. ClimEx-PE also co-organised the two-day workshop together with the NATURESCAPES team, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Durham University, and the British Academy (host). The event convened researchers and high-level stakeholders to exchange insights on how cities can deliver climate, nature and sustainable development goals in an integrated and actionable way.
Together with their colleagues from Utrecht University, Charlotte Demonsant and Helen Toxopeus, they shared preliminary findings on co-financing archetypes and arrangements within GEF’s Sustainable Cities Program—highlighting emerging patterns in how urban interventions are financed and how these structures may enable (or constrain) scalable impact. Across the workshop, discussions also emphasized integrated approaches and just transitions as essential pillars for tackling climate change in cities.
We are grateful for this meaningful engagement opportunity and the new connections formed in London. We look forward to translating these insights into action through ClimEx-PE’s ongoing work—and to strengthening collaboration with partners across the GEF community and beyond.
