On 1 October 2026, Utrecht University’s Green Office hosted an interactive lecture entitled “Hidden Water, Smart Solutions: Managing Groundwater for the Future”, introducing 20 students to the importance of groundwater in addressing climate extremes and building water resilience.
The lecture was delivered by Ádám Tóth, researcher at Utrecht University and member of the ClimEx-PE project team. He introduced the objectives of ClimEx-PE and presented the Nature-Based Managed Aquifer Recharge (NaBa-MAR®) concept, highlighting how groundwater storage and nature-based solutions can contribute to mitigating drought impacts, managing excess water and strengthening climate adaptation.
The session encouraged active student participation through interactive questions and prompts throughout the presentation. At the end, participants were also invited to complete a short survey, providing an opportunity to gather feedback and explore their understanding of groundwater-related challenges and solutions.
For ClimEx-PE, the event provided a valuable opportunity to engage younger generations in groundwater science, raise awareness of innovative nature-based climate adaptation strategies, and strengthen the project's educational and outreach activities. The interactive format also supported dialogue between researchers and students, helping bridge the gap between scientific research and public understanding.
