Dr. Andrea Velich Presents at Nature Protection Evening: Will the Danube-Tisza Interfluve Become a Desert?

On March 24, 2025, Dr. Andrea Velich, a leading researcher of the ClimEx-PE project, delivered a compelling presentation as part of the Nature Protection Evening series. The event, titled "Will the Danube-Tisza Interfluve Become a Desert?", featured both a lecture and a discussion.
Dr. Velich introduced the ClimEx-PE project, which focuses on water conservation. Her presentation included excerpts from several short documentaries on the topic, followed by a brief discussion. The event sparked meaningful conversations about the importance of sustainable water management and the challenges posed by climate change.
Dr. Velich also addressed the impacts of extreme hydrological events and the importance of ensuring a safe water supply for humanity and ecosystems. She highlighted that the main water reserves are found in aquifers, such as groundwater, which are vulnerable to extreme events but also capable of mitigating their impacts. The ClimEx-PE project aims to evaluate groundwater flow systems, promote Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) techniques, and foster creative community involvement, as well as to disseminate and promote new and improved nature-based MAR (NaBa-MAR) techniques patented by ELTE.
The event was supported by the Terézváros Municipality and the Pálferi Foundation.
