Groundwater and Climate Change: Insights from the ClimEx-PE Project at the University of Barcelona
An Environmental Challenge of the Utmost Relevance

On February 19 2025, Jose F. Garcia, one of the principal investigators (PI) of the ClimEx-PE project and director of the Water Research Institute (IdRA), led a stimulating class on the ClimEx-PE project, focusing on the capacity of groundwater to mitigate the effects of climate change. The lecture took place at the University of Barcelona and was aimed at university students studying Chemistry of Aquatic Systems in their first year of the Degree of Environmental Sciences. The attendees were especially motivated and participatory, given the multiple approaches to this current environmental challenge.
The activities promoted by IdRA confirm the growing trend of young scientists focusing their research in this field of study. IdRA's activities and research projects align with the principles of the ClimEx-PE project and the European Water4All initiative, as well as the foundations of the CHARM-EU collaboration framework and the TORCH project.
